Original Oil Paintings
by American Contemporary Landscape Painter
J.R. BALDINI, IPAP, M.Photog.,Cr.
Plein air painting is a different experience than studio painting.
For the artist and the viewer...
If the artist works in a studio, they most likely work from photographs, which involves a process of transferring the 2 dimensional surface of the photograph to the 2 dimensional surface of the canvas.
Painting outdoors trains the eye to work with atmosphere
The environment engages all of the senses to record the essence of the subject and not just a photographic likeness.
So, the artist is creating a painting in the same atmosphere that the subject lives in.
The artist learns to make decisions and work quickly to engage the changing light and the experience of the artist is hopefully transferred to the viewer.
